High School Students

High school students may be permitted to enroll in college courses under the following conditions and providing they do not displace adult college students:

  • The student must be a high school junior or senior at least 16 years of age.

  • The student must be recommended by the chief administrative officer of a public/state approved independent school and approved by the President of RCCC.

  • The administrative officer must certify that the student is taking at least three high school courses and is making appropriate progress toward graduation; in the case of courses offered in the summer, must certify that the student took at least three courses during the preceding year.

  • The student must complete and submit a college application for admission and meet other general admissions requirements. A completed RCCC Dual/Concurrent Enrollment/Huskins Bill Approval Form also must be submitted with all required signatures.

High school students taking curricular courses through dual enrollment shall be exempt from applicable in-state/out-of-state tuition. High school students who do not meet the dual enrollment requirements will not be eligible to receive a tuition exemption.

Dual enrollment high school students will be responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the College and are expected to abide by the same regulations as college students.

Home Schooled Students

Home schooled students interested in applying for admission to the College must do the following:

1.  Submit a completed admission application and meet all other general admission requirements.

2.  Present from the Division of Non-Public Education a copy of written acknowledgment

to operate a home school.

3.  Provide a copy of their cumulative academic record (if they have previously attended

a conventional public/private school).

4.  Present a copy of their test results from a most recently administered nationally

standardized achievement test.

5.  Take the College's placement test.

Audit Students

Individuals who wish to audit courses must submit a completed admission application to the Admission's Office, follow regular registration procedures, pay required tuition and fees, and abide by all college regulations. Only persons with a high school diploma or GED will be permitted to audit degree-level courses and courses offered in certain diploma and certificate programs.

Fees

All fees, except transcript fee, are due at the time of registration.

Activity fee--$8.50 for 1 to 5 hours, $17 for 6+ hours, and $4 (in summer). This fee Must be paid by day and evening students.  The collected fees are used by the SGA to help support dances, athletic events, contests, etc. A yearly fee of $17 is required for students in ABE/GED classes who wish to participate in on-campus activities.

Insurance fee($2)--good for the current registered semester and is in effect while on campus or traveling to and from classes.

Transcript fee($3)--charged for copies of official transcripts (unofficial transcripts are available at not charge). Transcripts will be provided within ten working days after receipt of a written request. Transcripts will not be released if you owe the College money, nor will they be faxed to another school/business.

Technology Fee--$16 for full-time students; all others will be charged a fee prorated by the Business Office.

Tuition & Residency

Tuition rates are established by the State Board of Community Colleges and are subject to change. Beginning with the 2007 fall semester, tuition was set at $42 per credit hour, not to exceed $672, for legal residents of North Carolina. Tuition for out-of-state residents was set at $233.30 per credit hour, not to exceed $3,732.80.

To qualify for in-state tuition, students must have maintained domicile (residence) in North Carolina for at least 12 months immediately prior to their classification as a resident for tuition purposes. Additional regulations concerning residence classification of students for tuition purposes may be obtained from Student Services.

Tuition Refunds

The state guidelines regarding tuition refunds for students registering for curricular courses are as follows:

Students Who Registered During Early Registration

crosshairs bullet Students are eligible for a 100 percent refund if they officially withdraw from the

College prior to the first day of the academic semester or if they officially withdraw from curricular classes prior to the day classes begin.

College prior to the first day of the academic semester or if they officially withdraw from curricular classes prior to the day classes begin.

crosshairs bullet Students registered for curricular classes that begin at times other than at the

beginning of the semester are eligible for a 100 percent refund if they officially withdraw prior to the first day of classes.

Students Who Registered During Regular Registration

crosshairs bullet Students are eligible for a 75 percent refund if they officially withdraw from classes

prior to or on the official 10 percent point of class or on the 10 percent point of the semester. Requests for refunds will not be considered after the 10 percent point.

crosshairs bullet Students registered for classes that begin at time others than at the beginning of the

semester are eligible for a 75 percent refund if they officially withdraw prior to or on the official 10 percent point of class or on the 10 percent point of the semester.

crosshairs bullet Students registered for certain diploma classes that begin at times other than at the<

beginning of the semester are eligible for a 75 percent refund if they officially withdraw within ten calendar days of the first day of classes.

crosshairs bullet In the event of death before or on the last day of examinations, all tuition and fees paid

for the semester may be refunded to the estate of the deceased.

All students are eligible for a 100 percent refund of tuition if classes are cancelled by the College.

Refunds are not automatic —they must be requested directly to Student Services.

Waiver of Fees

Tuition and student activity fees are waived for certain individuals, including North Carolina residents 65 years of age or older, prison inmates, and, in some cases, high school students.

Books & Supplies

The cost of books and supplies depends on the program in which enrolled.  Full-time student can expect to pay at least $200 per semester/term.
