The Associate in Science (AS) degree is granted for planned programs of study consisting of a minimum of 64 and a maximum of 65 semester hours of College Transfer courses. Courses are approved for transfer through the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement, which was developed by the North Carolina Community College System and the 16-member University of North Carolina System to address the transfer needs of students between the two systems. A number of private colleges and universities also honor the agreement. The AS program requires courses in English composition, humanities and fine arts, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics, and is designed for students who plan to pursue education in the fields of science, mathematics, or technology.
