Message from the SGA President
My name is Caneisha Gilliam and I serve as the President of the Student Government Association at Roanoke-Chowan Community College. As Student Government Association President, I serve as the “Student Voice” and a member of the College’s Board of Trustees. I have served in several positions with various college clubs and organizations since enrolling at the College. I have had opportunities to travel across the State to attend Student Leadership Conferences and to learn more about the North Carolina Community College System and how community colleges across this State, just like Roanoke-Chowan Community College impact the lives of the citizens of North Carolina. I can clearly say that Roanoke Chowan Community College has impacted my life.
I graduated from Bertie High School in 2010 and it was my grandmother’s words “If I can do it, you can too” that encouraged me to enroll at Roanoke-Chowan Community College to pursue a degree in Business Administration. R-CCC provides excellent educational programs. However, my greatest rewards at Roanoke Chowan Community College have been the opportunities for leadership development and growth. The leadership skills and campus engagement I have received, have aided me tremendously in my personal life, as well as, with my employment at the new Abrams restaurant in Ahoskie.
Roanoke-Chowan Community College has changed me as a person and as a student because I have always tried to strive for higher heights in life. I have grown, there’s no doubt about that, and I owe a lot of my growth to the guidance and support I have received while enrolled at R-CCC. I am striving every day to reach May 9th, 2014 to receive my associate degree in Business Administration. With the education, leadership skills, and confidence I have gained from R-CCC, I want to enroll at Elizabeth City State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
2013-2014 SGA President
