Part-time Fine Arts Instructor – Odom Correctional Institute

The Part-time Fine Arts Instructor is responsible for designing and implementing learning strategies for students in visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; developing course syllabi; administering tests; maintaining accurate instructional records; maintaining a safe laboratory environment; communicating equipment and supply needs; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College.  The Part-time Fine Arts Instructor has the following responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes College mission, values, and vision
  • Teaches assigned courses to meet program needs
  • Evaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedback
  • Prepare lesson plans, course overviews, and course syllabi
  • Uses and promotes appropriate technology to enhance student learning outcomes
  • Plan projects for hands on experience
  • Maintain equipment and ensure proper storage and security of supplies
  • Ability to provide guidance and advice regarding apprenticeship procedures.
  • Monitoring of shop environment including heating, cooling, ventilating and lighting
  • Determines need for supplies; ensure proper storage
  • Maintains cleanliness of class and lab area
  • Assists in the evaluation of courses and programs
  • Prepares and submits attendance records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy
  • Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College

QUALIFICATIONS: Required

  • Associate in Applied Science Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years minimum related work experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to provide guidance and advice regarding apprenticeship specifications
  • Proven evidence of leadership ability, supervisory experience and commitment to teamwork
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Bachelors’ in Applied Science Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • A minimum of 1 year of prior teaching experience in a classroom/lab setting
  • Prior teaching experience in a community college
