R-CCC announces SACSCOC Accreditation Reaffirmed

(AHOSKIE) – Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) is pleased to announce the successful reaffirmation of its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

The rigorous two-year reaffirmation process, which allows the college an opportunity to demonstrate the college is compliant with over 70 SACSCOC standards and policies, ended with notification of reaffirmation by the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges during its meeting held June 15, 2023.  The process of continued reaffirmation of accreditation requires a 10-year comprehensive and five-year interim review.  R-CCC was last reaffirmed in 2013 and the next reaffirmation will be planned for 2033.

Dr. Murray J. Williams, President of R-CCC said, “I am delighted to announce that we have received official notification from SACSCOC that we have no recommendations on our decennial compliance report and no recommendations on our Quality Enhancement Plan. Our college has been reaffirmed with no reporting requirements.  I am grateful for the hard work that our trustees, faculty, and staff put forth to make our onsite visit a success.”

“This accreditation renewal is further validation of the significant role that R-CCC plays in fulfilling our mission to educate our diverse student body and lead them to contribute to the vitality of an increasingly global community,” she states.

SACSCOC is the accrediting body for degree-granting higher education institutions in 11 Southern states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Accreditation by SACSCOC signifies that the institution complies with the standards of the “Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement” and the policies and procedures of the Commission.

Stephanie Benson, Executive Vice President, Workforce Development & Institutional Effectiveness/Executive Director of the Foundation, serves as the SACSCOC Liaison at Roanoke-Chowan Community College.

“Maintaining accreditation is one of the best ways to assure stakeholders of the quality of educational programs, mission fulfillment, and commitment to continuous improvement,” Benson said. “Campus-wide collaboration and commitment were required from every office and department to reach this momentous achievement of no follow-up associated with reaffirmation.”
