Hertford County Students Complete R-CCC Nurse Aide I Program

AHOSKIE, NC––Five local high school students have completed the Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) Nurse Aide I (NAI) program through workforce and continuing education, marking an important milestone as they prepare for careers in healthcare.

Course completers include Cyonna K. Jordan, Ashley J. Morales-Jimenez, Tenaiyah L. Morris, Kaylyn L. Satterfield and Saniyah L. Sutton. All are seniors at Hertford County High School, with the exception of Morales-Jimenez, who attends C.S. Brown STEM High School.

The students were recognized during a recent certificate presentation celebrating the completion of the program requirements. College leaders emphasized the significance of the achievement and the students’ commitment to their future careers in healthcare.

“We feel it is necessary to celebrate these young ladies who have worked so hard this past semester to reach this milestone in their academic career,” said Natasha Worthington, dean of workforce and continuing education.

The students will take their state certification written and skills exams in the coming weeks as the next step toward becoming certified nurse aides.

Steven Mathews, vice president of workforce and institutional advancement, praised the group for its teamwork and professionalism.

“This was a very good class,” Mathews said. “I just want to say congratulations, and we are very proud of you.”

Jamie Burns, interim director of allied health, encouraged the students to view their accomplishment as the beginning of a meaningful career in patient care.

“Today, we celebrate not only the completion of a program, but the beginning of a calling,” Burns said. “As nurse aides, you will become the hands that comfort, the voice that reassures and the heart that cares for people during the most important times in their lives.”
Burns urged the graduates to focus on dependability, respect, accountability and lifelong learning as they enter the healthcare field.

Instructor Paula Knight also commended the students for their dedication and potential.
“They have great aspirations,” Knight said. “They’re going to be great at what they do.”

Roanoke-Chowan Community College President Dr. Murray J. Williams also applauded the students’ achievement.

“These students have demonstrated determination, compassion and a strong commitment to serving others,” Williams said. “Their accomplishment reflects not only their hard work, but also the strength of partnerships between our college and local schools. We are proud of them and excited to see the impact they will have in the healthcare field.”

College leaders said the students have already begun planning their next steps, which may include pursuing additional healthcare training or enrolling in nursing programs.

“We are very proud of you and look forward to seeing what you are going to do in the future,” Worthington said.

The Nurse Aide I program provides foundational training for entry-level healthcare positions and serves as a pathway to advanced nursing education. For more information or to register, call 252-862-1307.
