AHOSKIE, NC–– Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) recognized eight students who successfully completed the college’s two-part Medical Assisting program during a ceremony held May 14. The graduates are now eligible to sit for the national certification exam, marking a significant milestone in their path toward careers in healthcare.

Family members, friends and college faculty gathered to celebrate the achievements of the program’s completers, whose dedication and perseverance were highlighted throughout the ceremony.

“This accomplishment reflects months of hard work and dedication,” said R-CCC Interim Director of Allied Health Jamie Burns. “Our graduates have gained both the clinical and administrative skills needed to thrive, and we are confident they are well-prepared to take the next step toward national certification and employment.”

The following students completed the Medical Assisting program: Janyziah M. Eley, Shardajah D. Hall, Tisa D. Monger, Kyma O. Norman, Harmony T. Peele, Aysia Simons, Keresa D. Smith and Jayla K. Urquhart.

The Medical Assisting program at R-CCC equips students with both administrative and clinical skills essential to working in physician offices, clinics and other healthcare settings. Through rigorous coursework and hands-on training, students gain competency in patient care, medical office procedures, laboratory techniques and professional communication.

R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams praised their commitment to advancing their education and entering the healthcare workforce.

“These graduates have demonstrated exceptional dedication and resilience in completing a demanding program that prepares them for critical roles in patient care,” Williams said. “Their achievement reflects not only their personal determination but also their readiness to make meaningful contributions to the healthcare field and to the communities they will serve.”

Program faculty also commended the students for their hard work and ability to balance academic responsibilities with personal commitments, noting the importance of skilled medical assistants in today’s healthcare environment.

The ceremony emphasized the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care and encouraged graduates to continue striving for professional excellence as they move forward with certification and employment opportunities.

With the successful completion of the program, the graduates are now eligible to take the national certification exam, an important credential that can expand career opportunities and demonstrate professional competency in the field.

Dean of Workforce and Continuing Education Natasha Worthington added, “Medical assistants play a vital role in today’s healthcare system, and these students are stepping into that role with strong training and compassion. We are excited to see the impact they will have in their communities.”
