Truck Driver (CDL) Training

Program Overview

Roanoke-Chowan Community College offers a comprehensive Truck Driver Training program designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in the transportation industry. This program provides the knowledge, hands-on driving experience, and professional skills necessary to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and succeed as a professional truck driver.

Students receive instruction in vehicle operation, safety regulations, defensive driving, cargo handling, pre-trip inspections, and industry compliance standards, along with practical experience behind the wheel of a commercial truck under the guidance of experienced instructors. The program emphasizes industry best practices, workplace professionalism, and safe driving techniques to ensure graduates are fully prepared for employment in the transportation sector.

Completion of the program opens a variety of career pathways, including positions as local, regional, or long-haul truck drivers, delivery drivers, freight haulers, logistics coordinators, and distribution drivers. Graduates are prepared to work for trucking companies, logistics firms, distribution centers, and government agencies, or to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities as independent owner-operators.

 

Admission

Apply Today for Truck Driver Training!  

To enroll, students must meet the following requirements by the first day of class:
  • $1,520 Tuition
  • CDL-A Permit issued by the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV)
  • NC DOT–Approved Medical Examiner’s Certification
  • Official Driving Record from the NCDMV
  • Drug Test completed at an approved testing site
 
 

Employment Opportunities

The Roanoke-Chowan Truck Driver (CDL) Training program is nationally ranked for providing graduates with an excellent foundation for a truck-driving career. Our students are tested thoroughly through both on-the-road and written exams to ensure they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully and safely operate commercial vehicles. Graduates from our course can expect to earn an average of $40,000 to $45,000 in their first year of employment with an established company. Graduates find employment in various industries, governmental agencies, and self-employment opportunities.
