Roanoke-Chowan Community College News

Greetings from the Office of the President at Roanoke-Chowan Community College. At R-CCC, we are excited about the new year and the many new and innovative opportunities for students happening on campus.

We recently celebrated the first five students to complete the initial Paramedic Program offered through our Public Safety Department. Providing local paramedic services in the Roanoke-Chowan area increases quality and access to healthcare for the community we serve.

We also congratulate the seven students who recently successfully completed the new Natural Hair Care Specialist course through the continuing education department. This is one of the many new continuing education courses offered at the college along with Weld to Work and the new Drone Remote Pilot Certification.

I am also pleased to share the Roanoke-Chowan Community College Foundation’s new executive officers including Bill Vaughan, Chairman, David Cotton, Vice Chairman, Andre Lassiter, Treasurer, and Shavonda Pugh, Secretary. The R-CCC Foundation Board is an independent organization created to support the college through scholarships and funding for special projects.

The R-CCC Foundation recently accepted a generous gift from the Norman L. Mebane Scholarship Committee to establish the Norman L. Mebane Trucking Scholarship at the college. We are grateful for this gift and encourage others to consider donating to the foundation to establish scholarships for worthy students. This is a great example of our college partnering with the community to increase access to education.

Other scholarships coordinated by the foundation include the State Employees’ Credit Union Bridge to Career Program that provides for up to thirty (30) $500 scholarships for eligible students.

Because of these scholarships, and numerous other financial aid opportunities, most students attending R-CCC will qualify for funds to assist with tuition and fees. Many students are eligible to take short term job training courses such as truck driver’s certification (CDL) and Weld to Work for free.

For information about financial assistance for short-term job training such as Weld to Work, CDL, Advanced Manufacturing, Drone Piloting, and others contact the Office of Continuing Education at 252.862.1307.
