R-CCC Celebrates Pharmacy Technician Course Graduates
AHOSKIE, NC –Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) proudly announces the successful completion of its Pharmacy Technician course by two dedicated students, Dayshia Sutton and Delexus Vinson, both of Ahoskie. The course, which began on May 13 and concluded on July 29, marks a significant milestone in their journey toward becoming certified pharmacy technicians.
Led by Dr. Stacy Simmons, RN, the 210-hour hybrid course combined online instruction with in-person learning, including hands-on clinical rotations at local pharmacies. This summer’s cohort benefited from partnerships with ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital’s Pharmacy — a newly added clinical site — alongside Mizelle’s Discount Drug Co. and Roanoke-Chowan Community Health Center in Colerain and Ahoskie.
“The course and the clinical experience made me love pharmacy tech even more,” said Vinson. “Completing the rotations at two sites provided a different experience at each place and gives me more options.”
Sutton emphasized the importance of real-world experience: “The opportunities at the different sites gave me hands-on practice, and it’s beneficial to see the different processes between sites. Students need that clinical experience to better prepare for the board exam.”
Simmons expressed gratitude for the community’s involvement, “We appreciate the community’s support and commitment to help grow the students of R-CCC. We are grateful to all the staff at our clinical sites who helped our students gain hands-on experience.”
Earlier this year, R-CCC’s Pharmacy Technician program earned recognition as a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)-Recognized Education/Training Program, affirming its alignment with national standards and its commitment to preparing students for certification and career success.
R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams praised the program’s innovative approach. “Our Pharmacy Technician program is a great example of how R-CCC is building bridges between education and meaningful careers,” said Williams. “By combining flexible learning with real-world experience, we’re equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in today’s healthcare workforce. We’re proud of the direction our allied health programs are heading.”
According to data from Indeed, certified pharmacy technicians in North Carolina earn an average base salary of nearly $50,000, offering a promising outlook for these newly trained professionals.
