Roanoke-Chowan Community College Students Learn Strategies to Beat End-of-Semester Burnout

Roanoke-Chowan Community College Students Learn Strategies to Beat End-of-Semester Burnout

AHOSKIE, NC – Students at Roanoke-Chowan Community College participated in a stress management seminar Monday aimed at helping them finish the semester strong.

The session, titled “Beat the Burnout: Your End-of-Semester Power Up,” was hosted by TRiO Student Support Services and featured Dr. LaKeisha Walker, a licensed clinical mental health counselor with Bridges of Hope Life Transformational Services LLC.

With just three weeks left in the semester, Walker encouraged students to take time to reset, refocus and recharge. She emphasized the importance of emotional honesty as a foundation for managing stress.

“You will never be able to manage our true emotions if [you] never identify them,” Walker said. “You have to be able to be honest with yourself because, if not, you’re going to walk around in a mode that’s always negative. Be honest with yourselves and how you’re really feeling so you can learn how to manage it. You can never manage what you’re not willing to accept.”

The seminar, held in the Freeland Building Community Room, provided practical strategies for coping with academic pressure and maintaining mental well-being during the semester’s final stretch.
