R-CCC Students Awarded Clara Motley Woman’s Auxiliary Scholarship

AHOSKIE, NC –Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) students Treneika Futrell and Tisa Monger have been named recipients of the Clara Motley Woman’s Auxiliary Scholarship, an honor that recognizes academic promise and community involvement. A special recognition ceremony took place on June 9 at West Roanoke Missionary Baptist Association, where the R-CCC students were celebrated alongside eight other scholarship recipients.

The scholarship is named in memory of Clara Olive York Motley, a Powellsville native and longtime advocate for education and community service. Motley served as an Extension Home Economics Agent in Hertford County from 1944 until her retirement in 1976, with a focus on youth development through 4-H clubs and support for extension homemakers. A proud graduate of Shaw University, Motley earned her bachelor's degree in Home Economics in 1936 and taught in the public school system.

Motley, who passed away in 2006, was deeply involved in both religious and professional organizations. Her affiliations included First Baptist Missionary Church of Powellsville, the Women’s Auxiliary of the General Baptist Home and Foreign Missions, and professional groups such as the American Home Economics Association, National Association of Extension Home Economics, NC Association of Extension 4-H Agents, Epsilon Sigma Phi, the Order of the Eastern Star and Bertie County Senior Citizens, among others.

R-CCC congratulates Treneika Futrell and Tisa Monger on this meaningful recognition and is proud of their achievements both in and out of the classroom.
