AHOSKIE, NC – Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) is proud to announce the successful completion of its Pharmacy Technician course by six students: Shania Bess, Jordyn Bracy, Kristal Harmon, Jamiya Harrell, Janaiya Jacobs and Ja'Quita Ruffin. The achievement marks an important milestone as they prepare to pursue certification and careers in the pharmacy field. 

The 210-hour hybrid course, led by Dr. Stacy Simmons, RN, combined online instruction with in-person learning experiences, including clinical rotations at local pharmacies. This summer's cohort completed hands-on training through partnerships with ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital Pharmacy, Mizelle's Discount Drug Co. and Roanoke-Chowan Community Health Center. The clinical experiences provided students with valuable exposure to a variety of pharmacy practice settings. 

"Our students demonstrated tremendous commitment throughout the program and embraced every opportunity to learn," Simmons said. "The hands-on experiences provided by our clinical partners helped build both competence and confidence, preparing these graduates to enter the workforce and make a positive impact on patient care from day one." 

In 2025, R-CCC’s Pharmacy Technician program earned recognition as a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)-Recognized Education/Training Program, affirming its alignment with national standards and its commitment to preparing students for certification and career success. 

R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams said the program reflects the college's commitment to addressing workforce needs while creating opportunities for students. 

"Healthcare employers continue to need skilled professionals, and programs like Pharmacy Technician help meet that demand while changing lives," Williams said. "These graduates have gained the knowledge, experience and professional foundation needed for rewarding careers, and we look forward to seeing the impact they will make across our region." 

According to data from Indeed, certified pharmacy technicians in North Carolina earn an average base salary of nearly $50,000, creating strong employment opportunities for graduates entering the profession.
