R-CCC Child Care Academy Offers No-Cost Training and Credential Opportunity for North Carolina Residents

AHOSKIE, NC––  Individuals interested in launching a career in early childhood education have a new opportunity to gain valuable credentials and training at no cost through an upcoming hybrid Child Care Academy at Roanoke-Chowan Community College.

The program, valued at more than $500 per participant, provides students the chance to earn the EDU 3119 Child Care Credential while completing required professional trainings for employment in licensed child care facilities across North Carolina.

The academy is designed to equip participants with the skills, knowledge and qualifications needed to enter the workforce immediately upon completion. Organizers say the program addresses the growing demand for trained early childhood professionals statewide.

Participants will complete a range of essential trainings including health and safety, infant and toddler safe sleep, outdoor play and learning, resume building, CPR and first aid, environment rating scales and basic school-age care.

The hybrid format allows for a combination of online and in-person instruction, providing flexibility for adult learners.

Applications are open through May 22, 2026, and space in the program is limited.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

Program officials encourage interested individuals to apply as soon as possible due to high anticipated demand.

The R-CCC Child Care Academy is funded through a grant from the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE), utilizing funds from the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five (PDG B-5). It is designed to respond to community
workforce needs while opening doors for individuals beginning careers in early childhood care.
